O Woe Is Me! (The Reboot)

O Woe Is Me is a bold, playful reimagining of Shakespeare that cracks open the classics and hands them back to everyone. Blending physical theatre, sharp humour, pop culture and moments of startling insight, the women of Shakespeare’s tragedies step out of the shadows and tell their own stories. Witches meddle, heroes unravel, and Shakespeare himself is lovingly interrogated.

At its heart, the work asks a mischievous but serious question: what happens when the women who were once plot devices finally take control of the narrative? Across centuries of storytelling, female characters have often been written as symbols, warnings, or convenient turning points in a hero’s downfall. Were they storms to be weathered? Temptations to be blamed? Or simply voices never allowed to speak for themselves?

Through bold physical storytelling and accessible language, O Woe Is Me demystifies Shakespeare and opens the door to audiences who may have felt shut out of classical theatre. The piece explores how women in literature are repeatedly framed as disobedient daughters, dangerous lovers, inadequate mothers or inconvenient wives. But what if the story shifts?

This vibrant and irreverent production invites audiences to laugh, question and rediscover the classics from a new perspective, where the language becomes clear, the themes feel immediate, and the women finally claim the stage.

From classroom to contemporary stage

It's a reboot designed for today, fostering meaningful connections and expanding horizons. The piece has previously been presented in schools, overseas and has a strong history as an accessible and engaging educational work. After a 15-year pause, O Woe Is Me is now being rebooted and reimagined into multiple formats to better respond to contemporary audiences and access needs.  The reboot reflects a long-term commitment to expanding how theatre can be made, shared, and experienced by artists and audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

The Curlews Call- In Development

.

The Curlews Call aka "The Curlew Project"- is an innovative new form of children’s theatre that reimagines accessibility, storytelling, and community collaboration. At its heart, this production is a story of loss, belonging, and the meaning of family, told through the eyes of the bush stone-curlew, a bird whose haunting call and displaced presence in suburban car parks echoes the dislocation many families feel in today’s world.

Written by neurodivergent parents for their neurodivergent children, the work is both deeply personal and universally resonant. Against a backdrop of chaos and environmental uncertainty, The Curlew Project weaves together a diverse team of artists of all backgrounds to create characters inspired by Australia’s overlooked bird’s ibis, crows, plovers, and the NOISY MINORS who must navigate the challenges of survival, displacement, and community.

We are working with artists of all diverse backgrounds to create a truly original GC story for all community members to experience and enjoy. This show is for all ages. Stay Tuned for cast announcements.
